“Eclipse,” the third episode of Salomon Freeski TV’s ninth season, was the brainchild of Reuben Krabbe, a Squamish, BC-based photographer and regular Mountain contributor. Krabbe had always wanted to photograph skiers during a total solar eclipse, and this past March, he got the opportunity.

Reuben Krabbe: Yeah, I was trying to network with different athletes and try to find athletes at the same step in their career as I was in mine. you're young and you don't have a portfolio, you've got the chicken and egg problem: you need to find good athletes, but good athletes don't want to shoot with people who don't have a portfolio that shows that they're good.

A duo of shots can be labeled as, arguably, his most famous: a 2013 image he shot of Tobin Seagel skiing under the aurora borealis in Canada’s Yukon Territory and “Eclipse,” the shot of Cody Townsend descending a line in Svalbard, Norway, in front of a Reuben Krabbe photo. Next up, he blew minds (ours included) for his work on ‘Eclipse’ – a film / photography project that found Reuben and a team of skiers backcountry wandering through the Norwegian Arctic with the impossible task of lining skiers up between a fleeting solar eclipse and a big-ass camera.
